Free Event on May 10 at Bethel COGIC Unites Health Experts, Community Leaders, and Families to Promote Safer Pregnancies and Healthier Babies in West Tennessee
MEMPHIS, Tenn., May 8, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — On Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Bethel Church of God in Christ, in partnership with A Chance To Learn, The Church of Jesus Christ at Latter Day Saints, Links to Success, Inc., and King of Glory COGIC, will host the Live Long Baby Community Baby Shower at Bethel Church (2216 Clifton Avenue, Memphis, TN 38127). This special event, which will be held on Mother’s Day weekend, is dedicated to celebrating expectant parents and families while addressing a critical community need—reducing infant mortality rates in West Tennessee.
West Tennessee ranks among the regions with the highest infant mortality rates in the state. According to the Tennessee Department of Health, African American infants are nearly twice as likely to die before their first birthday compared to white infants in the state. Many of these deaths are preventable with access to education, healthcare services, and supportive community networks. Recognizing this urgent need, the Live Long Baby initiative was created to bring awareness, provide education, and equip families with resources to ensure that every baby has a chance to thrive.
The Live Long Baby Community Baby Shower will feature educational panel discussions, vendor booths offering critical resources, and opportunities for families to connect with local organizations committed to maternal and infant health. Topics such as safe sleep practices, breastfeeding support, nutrition, and prenatal care will be discussed to empower parents with actionable knowledge. Families will also have access to mentoring opportunities and community engagement activities that foster ongoing support beyond the event.
Free giveaways, including essential baby supplies, will be provided to attending families. This initiative not only celebrates the upcoming births but also actively works to remove barriers that lead to preventable infant deaths. Through partnerships with dedicated faith-based and nonprofit organizations, this program emphasizes the importance of early intervention, access to quality healthcare, and the building of supportive communities around new parents.
The Live Long Baby event marks the kickoff of a broader mission to create systemic change in the health outcomes of infants and families throughout West Tennessee. Working collaboratively as community partners, Links to Success, Inc., Bethel COGIC, A Chance To Learn, The Church of Jesus Christ at Latter Day Saints, and King of Glory COGIC, are committed to ensuring that all babies have the opportunity to live long, healthy lives.
The event is free and open to the public. Families and expectant parents are encouraged to register by scanning the QR code provided on event materials or contacting Bethel Church for more information.
